Fight the Bite Form

Fight the Bite Poster Contest Co-sponsored by the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the
DEET Education Program
Win a $1,000 Savings Bond

Mosquitoes and ticks live throughout the U.S. and they can make it unpleasant to be outdoors. More importantly, these pests can spread serious diseases that affect children and adults. You and your family can help prevent mosquito and ticks bites, particularly using insect repellents, so you can continue playing and working outdoors.

WHO:  Students in 5th and 6th grades

WHAT:  Create posters that help others understand how to “Fight the Bite” by using insect repellents and other measures.
Some important points to know are…

HOW:  Create a poster (on 11”x14” heavy paper) with images of mosquitoes, ticks and people that show some of what’s important to know about repellents. You can paint or draw your creation. You can add messages about reading label instructions and “Visit www.cdc.gov/westnile or call 1-888-No-BITES for more information.”

WHY:  Help kids and adults know how to keep themselves safe from bug bites!  Your work could be chosen for display on the CDC website or use in educational materials.  Two winning posters will be chosen for each state (one in 5th grade, one in 6th) . Each winning state artist will receive a $50 savings bond and certificate.

The national winners (one in 5th grade, one in 6th) will win a $1,000 savings bond and plaque, plus an invitation to an awards ceremony at CDC’s Atlanta headquarters (travel expenses included for the winner and two family members).

WHEN:  All entries must be postmarked by April 11, 2008.
